Dear Readers,

The adventure returns...  What adventure?  And from where?  I’ll be happy to tell you.  In the 1990s I published in hard copy an international newsletter called The Medieval Chronicle.  The first issue began with “The Adventure Begins...” and the announcement of the last issue said “The Adventure Ends...”  It's only natural that this web issue should begin with "The Adventure Returns..."  There you have it!
For all that TheMedievalChronicle.com has to offer please go to the home page.  But this is only the beginning.  Between you, the readers, the authors and myself, we can make The Medieval Chronicle e-newsletter into a website that will be enjoyed for years to come.
Ten years ago this month author Carol Backus, aka Suzanne Barclay, passed away after a courageously fought battle with cancer.  To her multitude of fans—and there were many—she was known as Suzanne Barclay.  To me, she was Carol; my dear friend and as she once wrote in a birthday card to me “sisters of the soul”.  We met at a Romantic Times convention in Savannah, Ga. in 1992.  Being the first two at a seminar given by Roberta Gellis, we sat next to each other in the front row, began talking and never stopped!  I live in California and Carol lived in New York yet between the phone calls and emails the distance was invisible.  We held costume workshops together at writers conventions, co-wrote informational booklets on the medieval period and shared a table at book signings.  A mutual love of shopping gave us a reason to indulge ourselves whenever we were together!
I had the privilege to be chosen to provide the front cover quote for Suzanne’s Lion of the North and the back cover quote for Lion’s Legacy.  When we met she had sold her first book, Knight Dreams, but her release date wasn't until four months later.  Carol shared all her release dates with me by sending early copies of her books for me to read.  Her publishing career began in 1992 and ended all too suddenly in 1999.  She is truly missed.  Not just for the wonderful stories she wrote but for her warmth and out-going personality and her can-do attitude.
I dedicate this premier e-newsletter of The Medieval Chronicle to my friend Carol and to the author Suzanne Barclay.  She was my biggest fan.  May her stories live again through your discovery of her medieval tales that were meticulously researched and filled with history and passion.

Until next time,

Linda
